"After six months at the reception, this opportunity in Sales Support came up."

Home Interviews Interview with Rianne - From Reception to Sales Support

Rianne Kromhout, Sales Support: "When I step in in the morning, I have no idea what the day will bring."

She is married and lives in Rijnsburg, Rianne shares. "We spend a lot of time outdoors and enjoy walking. Our daughter plays korfball, and I'm also involved in that." She has been with Florisoft for over two years now. First as a receptionist and then transitioning to sales support. "Before this, I worked in ICT hardware, until the pandemic hit. Afterward, I worked in healthcare for a while, but that wasn't the right place for me. So, I started looking around, drove by here, and saw they were hiring. Later, I also saw the job on LinkedIn, and I thought, 'That's nice, it's close by.'"

Previously, Rianne had always held sales support-type positions. "I didn't initially aim for the receptionist role. But during the interview, the job description revealed that it was actually a receptionist-plus role. It aligned well with several aspects of my previous job. And now, in sales support here, I notice there's quite a bit of overlap too."

Rianne Kromhout

"And the supportive nature of a reception role suited me well again." The connection she felt during the interview definitely helped as well.

"I didn't even know there were opportunities in sales support at the time. But things worked out this way, and I got a bit lucky. Sometimes, that's what you need."

"In my current role, I still benefit a lot from my start as a receptionist. You get to know everyone, learn the layout, and understand who to go to for which question."

No day is the same

Rianne starts her mornings with a cup of coffee. "Then I check the inbox because emails largely determine my workday. Colleagues also come to me with questions. And I create quotes for Chris, the team leader. So, in principle, every day is different. That makes it fun."

She's quite proud of how quickly she's mastered the material. "After six months at the reception, this opportunity in sales support came up. That's pretty fast to learn everything. The good handover helped, but I was also given the space to shape the tasks in my own way. The variety is what I like most. The contact with many colleagues, but also with customers. Every day, I still learn new things about Florisoft software and the flower industry."

The industry

"It's a dynamic world. Things can be arranged quickly here, if needed. Short lines and easy switching are useful in an industry with perishable products. And when everything works out, it gives a real boost."

Company Culture

Rianne truly feels at home at Florisoft. "The culture here is accessible and down-to-earth. You can approach the boss directly, and there’s room for a bit of humor. It's a fun place, with lots of laughter and hard work."

She also enjoyed working at her previous job in the ICT sector. "Back then, I thought, 'I’ll never experience this again.' But here, I feel the same way. I always look forward to going to work, and I'm home within five minutes—it's a treat."

Rianne doesn’t have a strong ambition to move up right now. "If I’m in a place I like and doing work that I enjoy, that's great. I'd rather develop deeper skills—solving technical issues. I want to learn more about the system and how Florisoft works. That opportunity is absolutely there, and everyone is willing to explain things to you. You can shadow others and even join them when they visit customers if you want. You learn a lot from that."

What makes it even more enjoyable!

Finally, she mentions the facilities: "For example, the great company cafeteria, and you can always grab fruit or a soft drink. There are also regular drinks and outings, you can work out here, and we have a game room. These aren't the main reasons you come to work somewhere, but it's all here, and that’s super deluxe!"

"Just get in touch!"

Rianne has one more tip for someone who wants to work at Florisoft: "Just reach out, even if you don’t see an opening that seems to fit. Look at me—I applied for a role that wasn’t necessarily my ambition. But because of that, I’m now in a position where I truly belong. This is really a great employer, so just get in touch with us. There’s plenty of room for personal input here. The goal is for everyone to be in a role that suits them and feels happy. And if not, you can discuss it. Then, the company will see what they can do for you."
